ABOUT EUROHASH 2027

What is EuroHash?
EuroHash is the biennial gathering of Hash House Harriers (HHH) kennels across Europe and the world. A weekend of trails, beers, and camaraderie, it celebrates the global “drinking club with a running problem.”
Why Romania? Why Bucharest?
Romania is a land of stunning landscapes, rich history, and warm, welcoming hospitality — a place where adventure and culture meet. Bucharest, the “Little Paris of the East,” adds its own unique flavor with lively nightlife, scenic city parks perfect for running, and a food and drink scene that will delight every taste — from hearty local dishes to world-class beer.

For hashers, it’s the perfect playground: laugh, run, and party like only we can, surrounded by a city that effortlessly blends the historic, the modern, and the downright mischievous.
History of the Hash House Harriers
Hashing began in December 1938 in Kuala Lumpur, led by A.S. “G” Gispert, when a group of British colonial officers and expatriates started meeting on Monday evenings to run in the style of the traditional British Paper Chase, or “Hare and Hounds,” as a way to shake off the excesses of the weekend.

The group jokingly took its name from the Selangor Club’s dining club, nicknamed the “Hash House” for its notoriously bland food. Hashing paused during World War II but resumed afterward, spreading abroad to Italy in 1947, Singapore in 1962, and rapidly across the globe. By 2002, the Hash had grown to nearly 1,900 clubs in more than 180 countries.
The original mission of the Hash House Harriers:
-
Promote physical fitness
-
Clear weekend hangovers
-
Build a proper thirst (and satisfy it with beer)
-
Remind the older members they’re not as old as they feel
And yes — we still follow these principles today!
