⚠️ Important (Starting Fall 2026)

 

All non-EU citizens will require an ETIAS to enter Romania for short-term stays

(up to 90 days). Some visitors may also require a visa depending on nationality.

Note: ETIAS is not a visa or residence permit. It only allows short-term entry.

 

Travelers who already have a valid visa do not need an ETIAS.

 

Romania is part of the Schengen Area, so normal Schengen entry rules apply.

 

Entry Requirements

To enter Romania, you must be able to show:

• A valid passport (issued within the last 10 years and valid at least 3 months after your planned departure)

• A valid ETIAS (for short-term stays, if you are visa-exempt) or a valid Schengen visa / Romanian eVisa (if your nationality requires one)

• Proof of travel purpose, such as accommodation details, invitation, or return/onward ticket

 

Stay Limit

Tourist stays are limited to 90 days within any 180-day period, across all Schengen countries.

 

Visa and ETIAS Rules

• Visitors from countries that require a visa must obtain a valid Schengen visa or Romanian eVisa before traveling. They do not need an ETIAS.

• Visitors from visa-exempt countries may enter Romania for tourism without a visa, but starting Fall 2026 they must obtain an ETIAS.

• ETIAS only allows short-term stays (up to 90 days within 180 days) and does not replace a visa or residence permit, nor does it allow work or long-term study.
